Governor-Elect Wes Moore and Lieutenant Governor-Elect Aruna Miller: ‘The inauguration is not about us — it’s about you’

Announcing the Swearing In, People’s Ball, Evening of Faith and Community, and Day of Service

BALTIMORE (Dec. 1, 2022) – Today, the Moore Miller Inaugural Committee is announcing a slate of events to mark the Inauguration of Governor-Elect Wes Moore and Lieutenant Governor-Elect Aruna Miller. Centered around the theme of ‘Leave No One Behind,’ the Inauguration will bring people from all across Maryland together in celebration, in service, and in fellowship. 

“Thank you, Maryland! The Lieutenant Governor-Elect and I could not be more humbled by the opportunity to serve the great state of Maryland,” said Governor-Elect Wes Moore. “The inauguration is not about us — it’s about you. Together, we move forward as a state. Unafraid to be bold, to move fast, and to leave no one behind.” 

“Leave no one behind. That is not just a mantra the Army taught me. It’s a values statement. And when I’m sworn in, that will become the new mission of the state of Maryland.”

Leading up to the Swearing In Ceremony, Marylanders will have opportunities to mark the occasion with the Governor-Elect and Lieutenant Governor-Elect:

An Evening of Faith and Community with Governor-Elect Wes Moore and Lieutenant Governor-Elect Aruna Miller is scheduled for Sunday, January 15, 2023 at 5:30pm at Kingdom Fellowship AME Church in Calverton, MD. Doors will open at 5:00pm. This is a non-denominational celebration, and people of all faiths and backgrounds are welcome.

A Day of Service with Governor-Elect Wes Moore and Lieutenant Governor-Elect Aruna Miller is scheduled for Monday, January 16, 2023. The Day of Service will take place in communities all across Maryland.

“As our Governor-Elect likes to say, service is sticky. And those who serve together stay together,” said Lieutenant Governor-Elect Aruna Miller. “Which is why we’re inviting Marylanders of all backgrounds to come together and join us in a Day of Service to spend time giving back to the state that has given us all so much.”

The Swearing In Ceremony of Governor-Elect Wes Moore and Lieutenant Governor-Elect Aruna Miller is scheduled for Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at 12:00pm at the State Capitol in Annapolis. So Marylanders from all across the state can attend, complimentary round trip bus service to Annapolis is being provided from pickup locations across the state.

The People’s Ball: Celebrating the Inauguration of Wes Moore & Aruna Miller is scheduled for Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at 7:00pm at the Baltimore Convention Center. Doors will open at 6:30pm. 

“To mark this momentous occasion, we want to celebrate everyone across the state of Maryland,” said Honorary Chair Dawn Moore and Honorary Co-Chair David Miller. “The People’s Ball will reflect the great diversity of Maryland. In an effort to remove barriers to entry, we have made available affordable ticketing options and are partnering with organizations across Maryland to offer free tickets to underserved communities. We cannot wait to celebrate as an entire state.”
